Economics students rarely fail because they do not know the content. They lose marks because the answer does not show the reasoning the examiner is looking for.
Answer in a fixed structure
- Define the term precisely.
- Explain the reasoning in two or three connected sentences.
- Support with a diagram or example.
- Close with the conclusion the question asked for.
Diagrams are marks, not decoration
Label both axes, name the curves, mark the equilibrium and reference the diagram in your text. An unlabelled diagram usually earns nothing.
Do not postpone the numericals
National income, elasticity and statistics questions are highly scoring and quickly forgotten. Practise a few every week rather than in a block before the exam.
Learn the argument, not the conclusion
Knowing that a curve shifts is worth little; being able to explain why it shifts is the whole answer. Every time you learn a result, say the reason aloud.
